Nils Haugen grew up in Sioux Falls, the son of a contractor who had him hauling lumber at twelve and reading blueprints at fourteen. He says framing a house square is the same skill as fitting on a down block.
He played tight end at a Division II school on the prairie, catching passes on Saturdays and blocking defensive ends the other six days. He coaches the position like the Swiss Army knife it is.
He's steady, plainspoken and quietly funny, and he won't let anybody tell a tight end that blocking is optional.
